April Bullets

Today is the last day of April--unbelievable!  As I look out my window it seems that everything is blooming all at once. I would like this month to last a bit longer, because May will bring with it the beginnings of huge changes to my home and family.   But I won't think about that just yet, and simply enjoy every moment I have left of April.  Here are our recent happenings:
  • My job search has been much more challenging than I ever imagined. I have had a total of five interviews thus far, resulting in a total of zero job offers. Ugh. I was told by one of my interviewers that there are approximately 250 applicants for each opening.  Yes, things are competitive in my
field right now!  My plan is to continue applying all through the summer, and if no job offers come my way this year I will try again next year.  What a roller coaster ride I am on!  But it is exciting.  My next teaching opportunity is out there somewhere, and hopefully each interview will bring me closer to it.
  • Kent has been offered a job as the JV basketball coach at Lehi High School.  Unfortunately, there is not a teaching position to go with it, so if he accepts he will again be teaching and coaching at two different schools.  He is thinking it over and trying to decide what he wants to do. It would sure be nice to have him working close to home, although I'm not sure how I feel about him coaching in our hometown with all the drama and controversy that goes along with it.  Hmm, pros and cons.
  • It is finals week at SUU, and Rachel has spent every spare moment studying for her exams.  I am proud of her for working so hard this semester.  It has not been easy for her as a full-time student, living at home and working full time.  She will be glad to get this semester behind her so she can concentrate a little more on planning a wedding.  Just over two months to go.  This has been a loooong engagement!
  • Springtime means prom!  Braden and his girlfriend have been on-again/off-again for the last few weeks so he asked another girl he has been friends with for years.  He doubled with a soccer buddy, and asked Rachel to take their pictures.  Love them!  (p.s.  the last one is a joke, thank goodness.  Silly kids!)

A Blessed Nation

We are so thrilled and excited about the new temple in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It is beautiful!
We read that more than 100,000 people streamed through in the first two weeks of the open house, which was dedicated on March 17th.  The next closest temple had been in Guatemala, an 8 hour bus trip away. Members have said that having a temple in their country has been a long-awaited dream, and will be an enormous blessing.  Surely the membership of the church in Honduras will increase dramatically because of it.  It was reported that missionaries received more than 5000 referrals in the first two weeks.  What perfect timing!  My son is going to a blessed nation.

Spring Break on the Ski Slopes

We had a great time at Sundance.  What a beautiful place!  It is like a little piece of heaven.  We arrived early, checked into our cabin, skied all day, then returned to the cabin for an evening of Hawaiian haystacks and card games.  Rachel and George joined us after work.  The next day we slept in, went out to lunch and just enjoyed a leisurely afternoon in the cabin.  So fun!  A perfect family getaway.  Here are some pictures we snapped on the Sundance ski slopes.
