Miles & Ava

We had a fun weekend with my cute little niece and nephew. They stayed with us for a couple of days while their parents were on vacation. They are so full of personality! We had a blast with them. Here are some of the highlights...
Sparklers!
Chalk art on the driveway.
Group jumping on the tramp.
Later that evening after they had left, we all agreed that we missed them and wished they could have stayed longer. We've been laughing at funny memories and quoting things they said ever since. We love you, Miles and Ava! Come visit us again soon!

My Favorite Child

Every good parent knows that we are not supposed to have a "favorite child", but I have a confession to make...I do. And I'm not ashamed to admit it!

Rachel, of course, is my favorite child. She has that "oldest child" advantage. Of all of my children, she was loved first. There are no words, really, to describe the anticipation and excitement of becoming a parent for the first time. I will never forget finding out that we were expecting our first baby, going through a first pregnancy, giving birth for the first time, and the joy of holding my first, beautiful baby. During my pregnancy I desperately wanted a little girl. We chose not to find out the gender of our baby beforehand, but I dreamed of pink, lace, hair bows and frilly dresses. Hooray! I got my baby girl. So of course Rachel is my favorite. She made me a mother, and made all my hopes and wishes of becoming a parent come true. And she still does.

But no, on second thought...Braden is my favorite. He is my boy. ALL BOY! When we first found out he was coming to our family, we hoped for a rough and tumble, athletic little boy, and we definitely got an abundence of that. From the day he could crawl he was fearless, active and into everything. To his father's joy and delight, sports are his greatest love...from t-ball and little league sports to the high school achievements of varsity cross country, super-league soccer and sophomore basketball. And he can talk sports with the best of them. But the reason Braden is my favorite child is because of his gentle, laid-back way. He just takes things as they come and rarely gets upset about anything. What an outstanding young man! He is everything I've always wanted in a son. So of course Braden is my favorite child.

Wait...I've changed my mind...I cannot deny that Stefanie is definitely my favorite. She is and always will be my baby...spoiled to a small degree, but what would you expect with the favorite child? Stefanie is as sweet as they come. She is kind and lovable in every way. People are drawn to her, she is always surrounded by friends. I savor every moment and milestone with my little Stefanie, because every first for her is a last for me...last first step, last first word, last first day of school, ect. That's how it is with the baby of the family. Having been through these milestones before with my older children, I can enjoy and appreciate them a bit more with her. Which, of course, makes her my favorite child.

I'm sure that every parent has their favorite, just like me. Whether they will admit it or not.
